NEW YORK, June 13 (UPI) -- Comedy icon Jerry Lewis was transported to a Manhattan hospital after collapsing at the Waldorf Astoria hotel, the New York Post reported.
Lewis, 86, was to accept the Applause Award and present Tom Cruise with the Friars Club Entertainment Icon Award at a gala Tuesday night, but he collapsed with low blood sugar shortly before he was to take the stage. Lewis was taken to a hospital where he was treated and released, the newspaper said.
"I am sorry Jerry couldn't be here tonight, but I know he is going to be fine," Cruise said as he picked up his prize.
Lewis has been beset by poor health in recent years. He has suffered from prostate cancer, Type 1 diabetes, pulmonary fibrosis and heart disease.
