Kendrec McDade was shot seven times by Pasadena police officers on March 24, according to a summary of the autopsy released Thursday by Pasadena police.
Three of the wounds -- two in his abdomen and one in his right arm -- are considered potentially fatal because they struck and lacerated arteries, according to Pasadena police.
The autopsy found that no shots hit McDade in the back, according to the statement.
McDade, 19, was killed March 24 when Officers Jeff Newlen and Mathew Griffin responded to a report of an armed theft at a taco truck in northwest Pasadena. One of the officers pursued McDade on foot and another from his police cruiser.
Pasadena Lt. Phlunte Riddle said the first officer who fired did so while seated inside the patrol car when McDade approached the car with his hand at his waistband.
After he was shot, authorities determined that McDade was unarmed and that the theft victim had lied about his assailants having weapons in order to get a quicker response from police.
The shooting has prompted four separate inquiries, which are ongoing.
The Pasadena Police Department requested the release of the autopsy report from the Los Angeles County coroner's office on Thursday afternoon. Coroner's officials were not immediately available to release the report, said coroner’s Lt. Cheryl MacWillie. The Pasadena Police Department received a copy of the autopsy report Wednesday.
In a federal lawsuit, McDade’s parents, Anya Slaughter and Kenneth McDade, allege their son was shot multiple times in the chest but did not die immediately. McDade tried to speak with the officer, but was handcuffed and started to "twitch" and was left on the street for a prolonged period of time without receiving first aid, according to the suit.
The Pasadena police report issued Thursday did not address that issue.
